First version of SugarSync appeared in public during November of 2009, after several years of SugarSync, Inc. maintain their popular photo sharing program Sharpcast. After that service shut down, original users of this app were invited to transfer all their photos into SugarSync, an app that aimed to enable anyone to experience all the wonders of the completely streamlined online backup service that could reach not only PCs and modern smartphones and tablets, but also devices such as Smart TVs and Symbian phones. Today, SugarSync offers effortless file syncing, protection of files with great encryption, folder and file sharing, remote access to all your data via web interface or mobile apps and much more.
After more than four years of service with offering both freeware and paid version of the app, SugarSync Inc transferred to the fully premium business model in February of 2014. After that point, free version of SugarSync (with 5GB of free storage) can only be tested in a 30-day trial period. Cheapest paid tier offers 60 GB of storage for $7.49 per month.
